PostFX should be tuned for raid readability, not pretty screenshots. A good setup helps you separate players from the background: in dark corridors, near concrete walls, in grass, against trees or in grey fog. A bad setup makes the image bright but not useful: bright areas clip, foliage gets oversaturated and silhouettes indoors become harder to notice.

  • Sharpness: helps after TAA, DLSS or FSR. At 1080p, too much sharpness quickly creates noise on grass and trees; 1440p usually has more room.
  • Clarity: add it slowly if the image feels muddy. If surfaces start looking dirty and harsh, reduce it.
  • Luma Sharpen and Adaptive Sharpen: useful for distant targets in small amounts. Too much sharpening makes movement in bushes harder to read.
  • Color grading/filter: use carefully. A filter can look good in screenshots but hurt visibility indoors during raids.

Simple starter PostFX preset

There is no universal set: monitor settings, Windows brightness, HDR, map and even raid time all change how PostFX looks. Still, a soft preset is a good starting point that you can tune for your setup.

  • General daytime setup: Brightness 0-15, Saturation 10-20, Colorfulness 20-35, Clarity 10-30, Luma Sharpen 20-50, Adaptive Sharpen 0-20, filter Off or neutral.

  • Woods, bushes and foliage: Saturation 0-15, Colorfulness 15-30, Clarity 10-25, Luma 20-40. Do not make green too intense: players in bushes should stand out by silhouette and movement, not disappear into oversaturated leaves.
  • Rain, fog and grey dawn: Brightness 5-20, Saturation 10-20, Colorfulness 25-45, Clarity 20-40, Luma 30-50, Adaptive 0-20. A little more clarity helps, but too much makes rain and distant objects look dirty.
  • Dark buildings, bunkers and indoor Interchange: Brightness 15-35, Saturation 5-15, Colorfulness 20-35, Clarity 10-30, Luma 30-50. Check windows: if the outside is fully white, brightness is too high.
  • Night without NVG: Brightness 40-70, Saturation 0-15, Colorfulness 30-60, Clarity 0-20, Luma 30-60, Adaptive 0-20, filter preferably Off. This is an emergency setup for routes and silhouettes, not a real NVG replacement.
  • Night with NVG: Brightness -10-10, Saturation 0-10, Colorfulness 0-20, Clarity 0-15, Luma 10-30, Adaptive 0-10. With NVG, do not raise brightness much: lamps, sky and bright walls will start to blind you.
  • Night with flashlight indoors: Brightness 10-25, Saturation 0-10, Colorfulness 10-25, Clarity 10-25, Luma 20-40. If the flashlight creates a white patch on the wall, lower brightness or clarity.
Night PostFX does not make you invisible and does not replace NVG. It only helps you read silhouettes and routes a little better. If brightness is too high, lamps, windows, open areas and players near light sources become harder to see.

How to check that PostFX is not hurting visibility

  • Forest and bushes: a player against greenery should separate by movement and silhouette, not blend into oversaturated foliage.
  • Dark rooms: corners should be visible, but the background should not turn into flat grey mush.
  • Window from a dark room to outside: the street should not become fully white, or you will lose targets leaving the building.
  • Distant target: if DLSS/FSR plus sharpness makes enemies look like blobs, lower upscaling or sharpness and test again.
  • Long raid: if your eyes get tired after 20-30 minutes, brightness, saturation or sharpness is probably too high.
On a low-end PC, tune graphics without PostFX first and enable it only after that. PostFX is usually not the main FPS killer, but on a system with little headroom it is better to avoid extra processing until average FPS and 1% lows are stable.

Tarkov settings for low-end PCs

On a low-end PC, the goal is not maximum FPS in an empty corner; it is preventing the raid from turning into a slideshow during fights. Sacrifice distance, shadows and effects first, but keep the image clear enough for PvP.

  • Resolution: 1080p. If it is still rough, FSR Quality is better than a blurry non-native resolution.

  • Do not judge settings only by an offline raid with AI. Online raids and PvE can load the system differently.

Settings tests must be repeatable. If you test Customs at daytime today, Streets at night tomorrow and then Woods in rain, your conclusions will be random. Tarkov depends too much on map, weather, players, AI and raid time.

  • Pick one map and one 5-7 minute route: spawn, street/forest, building, scoping, extract path.
  • Record average FPS, 1% low, GPU load, RAM and VRAM use.
